MSO @ The UK Games Expo

Mike and the team run several tournaments and simuls each year at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham.  The 2026 tournament schedule is listed below (Friday 29th May to Sunday 31st May 2026).

UK Games Expo 2026 Tournaments

All of our tournaments are run using inclusive formats that keep all players involved through the majority of the tournament.  In later rounds, players are matched with others of a similar ability so even if you’re just a beginner we’ll do our best to get you a match at your ability level.  Players may withdraw before the start of any round by speaking to an umpire and we will remove your name from subsequent draws so that you may enjoy the rest of the show.

The finish times listed below are approximate.  Games can take varying amounts of time so some may finish earlier or later than advertised.

How to Enter

To enter please buy your tickets via the UK Games Expo website.  Please note that you must purchase both a UK Games Expo entry ticket and a ticket for each tournament you wish to enter. If you are entering a tournament on the morning that you arrive at the show please ensure that you allow plenty of time to collect your show pass so that you don’t miss the start of the tournament!

*Finish time is an estimate only, actual timings may vary on the day.
**Where “3+1” is shown, this means all players play 3 rounds with top players in the standings potentially playing as many as 1 additional round.
***Some tables may use an alternative player count if the total number of players is not perfectly divisible by the standard players per table.  For example, in a 4-players-per-table tournament, as many as three 3-player tables may be required to make numbers work.
**** CATAN tournaments are organised by CATAN Studio with support from the MSO team and may therefore follow slightly different procedures.

Our tournaments are flexible: players may join late or withdraw between rounds if needed.  Please notify the tournament desk if you wish to drop out of the tournament between rounds.

Simultaneous Exhibitions

The MSO also run a number of Simultaneous Exhibitions (aka ‘Simul’). Simuls are a well known concept from Chess where a strong player, typically a Grandmaster, plays multiple games at the same time against different opponents.

MSO run several simuls throughout the weekend at the PlayStrategy stand. The simuls on offer for 2026 are:

You can come and practice the simul games and meet the hosts at the stand throughout the weekend. All of the ticket sales, less VAT, will be donated to the 2026 UKGE Charities.
