Rules & Prizes

The Eurogames World Championship is a unique meta-event, which celebrates the best all round Eurogames player in the world. The player with the best top five Pentamind scores from Eurogame events is crowned the Eurogames World Champion.

Event Score =  100 x ((n+5)/(n+6)) x ((n – p)/(n – 1))

where n is the number of players and p is the player’s finishing position before tiebreaks in the event.

In the event of a tie, the next Pentamind score (i.e. the 6th best result) will be used as a tiebreak; the secondary tiebreak will be the 7th best Pentamind score and so on.

The Pentamind scores cannot use multiple tournaments for the same game including any variants.  For example regular Catan and Cities & Knights cannot both be used, nor can the two Dominion tournaments.

The 2020 Eurogame events are:

Catan, Carcassone (4 player), Stone Age, Cities & Knights, The Castles of Burgundy, Terra Mystica, Dominion, 7 Wonders, Ticket to Ride, Through the Ages, Carcassonne UK Championship, Takenoko, Catan (Bullet), Dominion Expansions, Marco Polo, Agricola

Prizes:

Catan: $150 voucher for Catanshop.com for 1st place, courtesy of CATAN Studio.

Cities and Knights: $150 voucher for Catanshop.com for 1st place, courtesy of CATAN Studio.

Catan Bullet: $150 voucher for Catanshop.com for 1st place, courtesy of CATAN Studio.

The Modern Abstract Games World Championship is a unique meta-event, which celebrates the best all round Abstract Games player in the world. The player with the highest top five Pentamind scores from the Abstract Games will be crowned the World Champion.

Event Score =  100 x ((n+5)/(n+6)) x ((n – p)/(n – 1))

where n is the number of players and p is the player’s finishing position before tiebreaks in the event.

In the event of a tie, the next Pentamind score (i.e. the 6th best result) will be used as a tiebreak; the secondary tiebreak will be the 7th best Pentamind score.

Modern Abstract Games events are:

Hive, Battlesheep, Hex, Zertz, Twixt, Quarto, Veletas, Circle of Life, Othello, Abalone, Trench, Quoridor, Entropy, and Lines of Action. Please note that you can’t use two events of the same type–just like the Pentamind WC. For example, only one Battlesheep, Hive or Hex can be applied towards the top 5 scores for the MAG WC.

Prizes:

Go 19×19: £50 for 1st

Speed Scrabble: £40 for 1st

Scrabble 15min: £50 for 1st

Abalone: £50 for 1st place over all and also for top junior

Twilight Struggle: $150 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd, courtesy of ITSL.

Chess: The player with the top 5 Pentamind scores from all of the Chess events will be crowned the 2020 MSO Chess Champion with the following prizes:

Pentamind World Championship: Name engraved on PM Trophy for 1st place

Chess 90min SuperBlitz Arena Aren: $50 for 1st

Chess Bullet Arena: $50 for 1st

Chess Bullet Swiss: $50 for 1st

Backgammon:
The player with the top 5 Pentamind scores from all of the Backgammon events will be crowned the 2020 MSO Backgammon Champion with the following prizes:

1st – £100
2st – £50
3st – £25

The Amateur Poker World Championship will be awarded to the player who has the 5 best scores from all the Mind Sports Olympiad’s poker events. Each score is calculated using the formula: Event Score =  100 x ((n+5)/(n+6)) x ((n – p)/(n – 1)) , where n is the number of players and p is the player’s position in an event. Any split positions are shared amongst all of the tied players.

Additionally, one MSO poker event can be applied towards the Pentamind World Championship. The Pentamind is a unique meta-event, which celebrates the best all-round games player in the world. Any event at Mind Sports Olympiad can count towards that year’s Pentamind, and the player with the highest top five scores is crowned the Pentamind World Champion.
